Something that might initially feel like a “restriction” in life is having to teach the same content multiple times in a single day. In my current position, I teach World History three times and IB History twice in a day.
However, this is actually truly a blessing. How often in life do you get to have a “do-over” to fix the mistakes you otherwise made previously. The first class I teach often feels like practice, and by the end of the day I’m a well-tuned machine with all the right examples and jokes (that sometimes don’t land).
Sometimes I wish that could happen in real life where we get a “do-over” if we mess up on something. Whether it be an interview, a social interaction (removing the awkward ones), or changing our order at a restaurant if the food doesn’t happen to be good. Like groundhog day.
I’ve never completely changed a lesson from one period to another though, because that would end up being a bit too chaotic and stressful. Today’s lesson involved students examining Pokemon Cards of different WW1 technologies and eventually making a few of their own if they had some time left over. Here are some funny ones:
