Just as Kai is trying to break out of his prison (his playpen), sometimes I wish as a society we could all break free out of the monotony of everyday life.
After all, I will be going for probably a minimum of 28 more years to work, and then straight home to take care of him. Of course, things are going to change every year as he continues to get older. Still, the mundane-ness of everyday routines can sometimes make you feel trapped in a lot of ways.
Grateful for the weekends and the standard vacation hours as a teacher, which will make summers probably the unique aspect of growing older and reliving life through his eyes.
Another good reason why I made the switch to high school. Still, doing the “same field” 11 years in a row can still be a bit repetitious after a while.
But of course, it’s still better than alternative jobs. Anything blue collar would probably make me even more exhausted. And after working at Popeyes in high school, I would never want to do anything food service related again.
In the end, the only prisons we are truly in are in our heads, and we can break out of their shackles by challenging ourselves to continue to do unique and innovative things each and every day.
