It’s the first day of school (again) for the 12th time as a teacher. And with about 27 years to go till retirement, it was a mostly excellent day, minus just one student.
This year I’m teaching the same classes, although I sadly only have one section of HOTA (the IB students). Still, the other 4 periods were relatively well behaved, with a combination of co-lab (one aide) and co-taught (one co-teacher) classes. At least there will always be another adult in the room if I ever need to run to the bathroom.
The students did the usual first day activity which I’ve done for the last few years or so, which is writing a letter to me. I hope to respond back promptly – although with a 14-month old it might take a bit longer than usual this year.
Continuing with the Pokemon theme as well because students seem to thoroughly enjoy that, for whatever reason.
I’m also grateful to finally have friends at Kennedy.
Here’s hoping the rest of the year goes exceptionally well!
The only “bad” student kept talking after I quieted down the class for instructions. I said “excuse me?!” loudly to which he responded with an “you’re excused” rudely. To which I sent him outside immediately to talk to him privately. Seeing that day 1 is essentially the honeymoon phase, I’m going to have to work with him to make sure he is successful. We’ll see what happens.
