I’ve had my first surgery EVER in the history of johnletran.com. And hopefully it’s my last.

The worst part? That IV insertion felt like inviting a stranger into my bloodstream, almost like a terrorist in my own body.

But then came the sweet relief of anesthesia, gently ushering me into a temporary oblivion. It’s a bit like time-traveling, albeit a tad unnerving to skip ahead a few hours in an instant. Yet, it does give me a newfound appreciation for every moment of consciousness. With only 24 hours in a day, it’s all the more shocking to lose time that instantly. People say you don’t really dream in that time period, but I think I definitely had some thoughts.

I’m deeply grateful for my incredible support system—my friends and especially my amazing wife—who’ve been by my side through it all. Here’s to cherishing each precious moment of life a little bit more, thanks to this experience. I definitely feel like a new man with a small piece of me forever stripped away.
