When I started the lead program in spring of 2024, I did it with the sole intent of just getting another credential (administrative services). Because why not – especially if the district was going to pay for half of it. I soon realized it would be an immersive program that would connect me quickly to the higher ups at the Anaheim Union High School District, resulting in an eventual final class meeting at the superintendent’s house.

Along the way, I tackled readings, challenged perceptions of myself, and am continuing to reinvigorate new ways to help my students in my classroom.

My biggest takeaway from the whole thing is leveraging my relationships with others to inspire other teachers and staff to become better teachers. Can I really move teachers and move systems? I am still unsure.

At the end of the program I am most grateful for some of the people I’ve met who continue to inspire me to be a better educator. Most notably a “motley crue” of teachers from various sites. They are committed to bettering the lives of their students, and I have “been changed for good” because of them.

Will I become an admin? Probably not anytime soon with a newborn on the way. But I’m more open to the possibility of doing so in the future with 28 estimated years left in education.

Gave my capstone presentation as well which is embedded below:

Big takeaway is if I am able to move other teachers and move systems I will have a greater impact on all students, which was my ultimate intent in going into education in the first place.
