Year of the Dragon

With the passing of time comes another celebration of Lunar New Year. In this case, it’s time for the year of the dragon to emerge.

Another year… another potential for good luck through various prayers at 12 different Buddhist temples all over Orange County. And unfortunately, this meant having to endure wearing a Vietnamese traditional dress, which I still find mostly unattractive on males. And yet I do it, mostly for the wife.

The year starts off with a rough, but necessary cancellation. We found a townhouse in Garden Grove we found suitable to spend our lives together in. Ironically enough, the condo had the #24 on it, which I took as a positive sign of great potential. We got deep into the escrow process, which entailed wiring earnest money and doing thorough inspections, but were ultimately caught off guard by HOA documents, which told us the HOA the townhouse was in had very limited reserves in their coffers. This led to an unfortunate cancellation, and took us one step backwards from achieving our home ownership goal.

And yet, with the start of a new year, I’m hopeful that our dream will eventually come and we will blessed with good fortune. No matter where we end up, I imagine Katherine and I will remain happy and content. After all, it’s not all about material posessions, but rather the people we’re with. Not saying that I would want to live in a tent on Beach Boulevard, but no matter where we end up, I imagine we’ll continue to live happily ever after for decades to go.
