Day 172: Summer Training

June 21st, 2011

Today I woke at 6am for the first day of summer, and the first day of training for my new job. It was SUPER early, and I was not all all happy with the prospect of doing so. I walked all the way to the 41 bus stop, bused to Fashion Valley, and used the 928 to get to Taft Middle School, where I took my picture of the day. I brought a map with me but somehow lost it on the way, so I subsequently had to ask the bus driver for advice on how to reach my ultimate destination.

The training day was a LONG day. It was quasi-fun as I got to know some of the other people in my site (Waigerhaim), but was also very tedious and long. We went through a very long process and explained lots of rules, procedures, and a general overview of the summer program. We also did icebreakers and team building sessions, working together to create brainstorm ideas and solutions for the problems presented to us. In attendance was 112 people, but only about 12 people were in my group. I had a nice lunch break where I wrapped a ham and cheese sandwich with 10 rolls of paper towels to protect it from demise in my lunch bag. It was a good lunch and I had a fun conversation with some of new peers from Waigerhaim, but not very fullfilling (sexually).

I subsequently bused home where I fell into a small trance falling asleep. I saw Manuel move in some of his things, before I left to meet up with Jessica. I helped her move her stuff to her new apartment, and in return we went to Ralph’s where she bought groceries so she could cook for me as a reward. She made me lasagna and it was delicious as I surfed the Internet and watched Ron Paul videos while playing Tetris. We talked on the phone with Adam as I insulted him quite a few times claiming Ron Paul will clearly win in 2012 (unless the media doesn’t stop him). Afterwards I went home and talked to Geetha on the phone before ultimately calling it a night.

History
On June 21st, Three civil rights field workers disappear after investigating the burning of an African American church by the Ku Klux Klan. Their bodies were found buried six weeks later and seven members of the Ku Klux Klan were found guilty on federal conspiracy charges. SO SAD…
News
On the eve of President Barack Obama’s major speech Wednesday night where he will reveal the scope of the initial troop withdrawal from Afghanistan, freshman Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul criticized the president’s use of the War Powers Act. In an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on “The Situation Room,” the Kentucky senator said he plans to introduce a Libya resolution that says Obama is in violation of the War Powers Act. “I don’t think Libya is in our national security interests and I don’t think we can afford to be in a third war. I will have a resolution to replace it,” Paul said. “In my resolution I’ll the say the president is in violation of the War Powers Act and he should obey the War Powers Act and disengage.” SO TRUE.

P.S.: CUTE
