March 9th, 2011
Today was a relatively long day, so forgive me if I stumble through all the mumbo-jumbo. I would wake up, do P90x, and then go to Price Center to put up some UCSD Cares posters. I went ahead and snapped a picture of one of the locations where I put them up, and I think it provides a good contrast between my work and other people lazily walking around campus not working. (The Haves vs. the Have nots). I proceeded to eat at Price Center, but then I bumped into Jessica, and we talked for a bit. We gossiped, and somehow we got onto the topic of Ash Wednesday. I was shocked but then suddenly remember – that means my “No non-water drinks” pledge for lent begins officially today. It was really sad, cause I didn’t even get a chance to consume the Naked juice I bought yesterday, half of which remains in my refrigerator still. After bidding Jessica fairwell, I made my way to class. After class, I would 1) go to a WTCC meeting 2) go to the One Stop desk to look for Tiffany to talk about UCSD Cares. Unfortunately she was not there today. 3) Go to Foodworx to eat a disgusting salad (did I mention it was disgusting?), and surprise Geetha for a bit.
I would go to my last Video Game Studies class of the quarter, where we dissected the question of whether or not video games cause violence. I’m still divided over picking a side in the debate between the idea of an “active media” or an “active user”. After, me and Tyler would walk over to NRHH, where at the meeting, we got free Pizza! Granted, it wasn’t very good, but it was relatively easy for me cause I was hungry still from that disgusting salad. In between NRHH & ICRA, I had a conversation with Windi where we hashed out some of our differences, not really coming to a definitive conclusion. At ICRA we came up with event ideas with Disneyland and the Price is Right inevitably winning out. DARN, I really wanted Mud Wrestling too! After the meeting Windi chatted to us about the failures of our Toy Story Event (our commitee: Amul, me, Bee-John, Geetha, & Rashika), and gave out some finals good luck gift bags to the entire executive board, as well as our ICRA sweaters. We all took a picture with it, but I ultimately rejected its usage as my picture of the day.
After the meeting, me, Alex, Lauren, & Amul would be driven back to warren, where Lauren, Amul, & I would discuss the happenings of the night among other things. When done, me and Amul would go to Geisel to study, where we would bump into both Geetha and Bee-John. It was a relatively entertaining study session, as Rashika joined us later (after being lost), and I got much of my work done. After, we would all go to TapEx, at 11:59, right before it closed, and Bee-John would fail in ordering a drink (cause he wanted food to go along with it). I resisted my temptation to order a non-H2O drink at TapEx as me and Amul left to go to Earl’s. While there I would buy water (who does that?), and also apple slices as sort of a patch for my juice/soda cravings. Oh well!. 39 days to go. Happy Ash Wednesday all.
| On March 20, the first day of spring, “The Very Hungry Caterpillar,” the legendary children’s book written by Eric Carle in 1969, will be sent for free to more than 17,500 pediatricians’ offices around the country in order to promote the “Eating Healthy. Growing Strong.” campaign, a movement designed to combat childhood obesity. Created by the anti-obesity campaign, The Alliance for a Healthier Generation, and the American Academy of Pediatrics, the books will be sent with growth charts and reading guide handouts in order to encourage both parents and doctors to have discussions about healthy eating habits, including nutrition and portion control, with the younger generation.”Parents and doctors both play an enormously important role in ensuring children develop healthy eating habits early on in life,” said President Bill Clinton, founder of the William J. Clinton Foundation, a founding organization of the Alliance for a Healthier Generation along with the American Heart Association. “By joining with the American Academy of Pediatrics and the classic children’s brand ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar,’ we are starting a dialogue between parents and doctors that will go beyond the waiting room and into the home, enabling 21 million children to make more nutritious choices and lead healthier lives.” I loved that book as a kid 🙂

On March 9th, 1953, Barbie doll makes debut at the American Toy Fair in New York, the doll was designed by Ruth Handler and introduced by Mattel Toy Company costing $3. This might be a sad fact, but I played with Barbie dolls when I was a kid. YEAH, but I also played with lots of Hot Wheels. My sister works there, so she got our whole family lots of free Barbies. It’s a sight. 🙂 |
