Day 67: Lounging around.

March 8th, 2011

I feel terrible. I planned to do a bunch of work & studying tonight, but it really didn’t pan out as well as I thought it would. I started out the day going straight to work and working for several hours. I found out 1on1’s for ICRA were cancelled, and that increased my amusement. Exec Board & 1 on 1’s cancelled? Goooooo ICRA. After engaging in some work, I had lunch with Geetha & Bee-John at Pines. While on the way I saw Howard, with other men, and surprisingly stalking me from the front. There wasn’t much at Pines so Geetha & I went to Foodworx where I got more food and watched some Glee shortly thereafter. I went to work yet again, and my boss made me assemble several boxes together, which was slightly fun. It was funny because while I was doing that I also took a glance at the A.S. elections website, where statements were finally uploaded! Mine is here: http://as.ucsd.edu/elections/ballot/displayStatement.php?id=488

Sandy surprised me at work as I neared the end of my work hour. She would walk/bike me over to the SunGod Lounge, where in the Red Shoe room I would have my UCSD Cares meeting, which ran relatively smoothly. I always like to contrast Cares to ICRA just to see how different the two organizations are from week to week. For being the better of the two, I have made it my picture of the day. After the meeting, I went to class, immediatelly following it by eating dinner at Burger King alone. Geetha, Charlene, Yammi, & Cindy would bump into me, as they left ICRA’s Mardi Gras Dinner. We would watch Glee after, before I headed home to finally get cracking on that homework I said I would do. Study time. Bye.

A major Hollywood studio began streaming the film “The Dark Knight” directly through Facebook on Tuesday in an experiment that literally opens up a new theater in an escalating battle over online entertainment. Analysts viewed the test by Warner Bros. Digital Distribution as a shot across the bow of Los Gatos’ Netflix Inc., which is shifting its business away from mailing DVDs to delivering movies and TV shows over the Internet. Netflix’s stock price dropped nearly 6 percent on the news. Warner made the 2008 Batman blockbuster available for rental directly from the movie’s Facebook page, which has nearly 4 million fans. Analysts said the experiment could presage a long-term threat to Netflix, yet cautioned it was too soon to tell whether it will be a hit or miss. And Warner Bros. won’t be alone on Facebook for long – Netflix in January told shareholders it was working on its own “extensive Facebook integration.” HRM INTERESTING.
On March 8th, 1965, On the evening of March 7, 1965 a peaceful demonstration was planned on the road to the Montgomery capitol building. The next day, a report was made regarding the unfortunate turn of events that took place which had resulted in the sudden termination of this civil rights march. About 450 African-Americans had shown up to participate in this civil rights march which was organized by major figures such as Martin Luther King, Jr. King (not physically present at March, but a major influence). About a mile into the march, a group of state troopers bearing night sticks, tear gas, shotguns, gas masks, and grenades had broken up the march. About 40 African-Americans involved in the march were injured-some very critically. In fact, John Lewis (head of the Student Non-Violent Co-coordinating Committee) had suffered considerable damage to the skull. Another march was scheduled for the upcoming Tuesday. This second marching attempt was to be lead by Martin Luther King, Jr. YAY.
