Wednesday is officially a day of meetings. Though I could claim they’re kind of tedious and boring, I do find some sort of enjoyment into going to so many. [especially crammed in such a short time-span.]
I woke up and did the following: P90X –> Earl’s –> Class –> Pines with Adam –> Class –> Meeting –> Class –> Goodies with Tyler –> Meeting –> Goodies with Geetha & Cindy –> Meeting –> Home
To be a little bit more specific, the first meeting I went to today was WTCC (Warren Transfer Commuter Comission), which is inside of the Bamboo Room (near the LGBT resource center and the Guardian office). [My picture of the day is outside of that office]. The meeting was surprisingly efficient, as Tyler and crew were able to plan events relatively smoothly over the course of 30 minutes. It definitely was shorter and more efficient than a PAW or ICRA meeting ever will be, but that could be contributed to the fact that it has fewer members to account for. I’ll be excited if WTCC can pull off a Big Bear Trip and a Wicked Screening. That’d be nice. They also have a basketball and poker tournament coming up this quarter. I’m not exactly sure if I’ll come back next week, due to the fact that I kind of want to avoid joining programming clubs, but their organization and enthusiasm impressed me greatly. ACCB (All Campus Commuter Board) might be another club I want to join, which meets Mondays at 1 in the Price Center Commuter Center. I talked to the president in the commuter lounge with Tyler and he seems like a pretty chill guy. Regardless, The Bamboo Room (or at least the outside of it) gets to be the picture of the day because I enjoyed the meeting more than NRHH & ICRA (it was more professionally done in other words, but more about that later).
In my Computer Game Studies Class, we finished watching the Documentary “King of Kong: A Fistfull of Cards”, and let me just say… BILLY MITCHELL IS A WHORE!!! I HATE HIM SO MUCH!!!! Or at least the way the Documentary portrayed him (as a douche).
Class was followed immediately by two more meetings – NRHH (National Residence Hall Honorary) and ICRA (Inter-College Residents Association). After a rather lame icebreaker for both organizations (in the form of charades), the club got down to business. My boss won an award for Faculty/Staff member of the month, although technically he wasn’t supposed to, cause apparently he doesn’t deal directly with residence halls. Still, I’ll deliver it to him tomorrow morning and hopefully he’ll have a positive reaction. We’re also apparently honoring cops at UCSD for this quarter’s recognition project. At ICRA, my international languages karaoke event was apparently dismantled due to the fact that it might offend some people. Sigh. Apparently political awareness, Lauren’s commitee, was also dismantled – to be replaced by 2 other lame events that will probably be disbanded yet again next week. By the end of the night, I was tired and just ready to go home.
Matt, Alex, Lauren, Amul, & myself went back to Warren through Alex’s car. After she left, we went to Earl’s where we saw Matt Olsen, and immediately pressured him into playing games. Matt, Amul, and I played Monopoly Deal, where I ultimately failed due to my ability and forgetfulness on how to play the game. The night ended immediately after with not much happening in between.
I spent the next hour ordering books online for free. I didn’t want to pay for them, but then realized 3/4 of my classes didn’t have them in the library, so I was sad of my inevitable fate. Luckily my sister told me about InterLibrary Loan (ILL), which if it works at uCSD, will hopefully provide me the books I need all quarter for free! [though I’d have to wait for it]

John Boener was officially sworn in today as the speaker of the House. Though I don’t like him as much as Ron Paul, I really do think he will make a positive change to America after the derailing of the Constitution caused by Nancy Pelosi and the 111th Congress. New rules have also been established for the new Congress which I approve of, which include: 1) all new legislation will be required to include a “Constitutional Authority Statement,” specifying which section of the Constitution allows for passage of the bill. 2) The Republican majority also will require any spending increase to be offset by a spending cut of a similar size. New spending will not be allowed to be funded by tax increases. and 3) Every bill will have to posted online for 72 hours before a final vote. |

On January 5th, 1940, the United States Federal Communication Commission listened to a demo of FM radio on that day. A year after in 1941, FM transmitting took place for the first time. Although one would expect the radio to be a dying medium, it isn’t. In fact, while newspaper readership has been steadily in decline, radio hits have been stable and sustainable. XM Satellite radio and Sirius Satellite radio on the other hands, have been failures, and for good reason: HOWARD STERN, YOU ARE A DOUCHE! Anyway, my favorite radio stations in Orange County are 98.7, 102.7, 103.5, and 104.3, while the only radio station I both like and know of in San Diego is 103.7 (SOPHIE). |
P.S.: So I go, and I will not be back here again. I’m gone as the day is fading on white houses. I lie, put my injuries all in the dust. In my heart is the five of us in white houses.
