Day 243: Big Shoes to Fill

August 31st, 2011
It’s the end of the month of August, and today was unlike any other, minus the fact that I came out of it with a new jacket. In the morning I went to EHS going over to 401 for a bit to do some work, where Geetha visited me for roughly 30 seconds. When work was done I went to the Bookstore to buy a Bobble and then went home to my apartment. Alex came over, and picked up her stuff demanding me eat lunch with her on Friday. I replied by agreeing to her ridiculous request. I would eventualy bus back on campus where Geetha would kindly buy me Panda Express while I delivered her her personal bobble. The day was far from done though, as we bused straight to Marshall’s (seeing Jessica on the bus). While there we tried on shoes, jeans, and jackets, where I saw literally the hugest shoes ever, as pictured above. Metaphorically, it represents a perfect example of where I am in life – not sure if I can fullfill the shoes of my predecessors (from Southern Caucasia, obviously). Eventually Geetha got some wonderful tight shoes while I got a nice looking jacket for the Winter 2011 Season. We went to Best Buy afterwards where we calculated the expensive price of tablet PC’s. We would bus back to La Regencia for a bit, talk to Tyler for a bit, before going back to Geetha’s place to end the night watching The Social Network. Decent Movie…. I guess. Goodbye August !

History
Samuel Mason, a Patriot captain in command of Fort Henry on the Ohio frontier, survives a devastating Indian attack on this day in 1777. The son of a distinguished Virginia family, Samuel Mason became a militia officer and was assigned to the western frontier post of Fort Henry in present-day West Virginia. In the summer of 1777, with the colonies fighting a war for independence, Mason feared attacks by the Indian allies of the British. He was proven correct on August 31, 1777, when a band of Native Americans from several eastern tribes attacked the fort. The Indians initially fired only on several men who were outside the fort rounding up horses. Hearing the shots, Mason gathered 14 men and rode to their rescue; this was exactly what the warriors hoped he would do. They ambushed the party, killing all but Mason. Badly wounded, Mason escaped death by hiding behind a log. A second party that attempted to come to his rescue suffered the same fate as the first. All told, Mason lost 15 men, compared to only one fatality among the attackers. YAY AMERICA WINS AGAIN 🙂

Guess who’s excited about House Speaker John Boehner’s successful request for President Obama to postpone his September 7th jobs speech by 24 hours? Did you guess Ron Paul? We guessed you might. As Ron Paul 2012 Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton said in a press release, which we received thanks to our new membership (!) to the Ron Paul 2012 campaign media listserv: “Speaker Boehner did the right thing, and we thank him for it. When this subject initially came up, it was Congressman Paul’s campaign who initiated talk of objecting to the President’s plan calling a joint session at this time and we are glad to see the Speaker of the House seize the initiative.” Jesse Benton did the right thing, and we thank him for it. And Ron Paul did the right thing by directing Jesse Benton to do the right thing, and we thank him for it a tiny bit more. THANK YOU. STUPID PRESIDENT >:(

P.S.: Space Cadet
