Day 185: America’s Birthday

July 4th, 2011
Happy Birthday, AMERICA! I did many patriotic things today to celebrate. This morning, I woke up and watched Big Fish, which was a relatively entertaining movie, except it was kind of slow the whole way through. After that disappointment from Tim Burton, I chillaxed for a bit, before Geetha came over to hang out. Then, the better part of my day begin.

I relaxed with Lauren, Geetha, and Tyler for a little bit and talked about planning some sort of outdoor adventure, including “hiking up a river”. Whatever that means, Tyler is clearly a cunt-licker-bitch (his words, not mine). Tyler left and Lauren, Geetha, and I watched the pilot of Breaking Bad, a WONDERFUL show. I really feel sympathy for the main character, even though Lauren and Geetha seemed to dislike it very much so. We watched the 24 “Snuke” episode of South Park until Rosario came in, at which point we decided to go to Phil’s BBQ. BBQ on 4th of July = genius. I don’t know why, but the line was extremely short, probably because it was a Monday, and Phil’s is usually closed on a Monday. GOOD FOR US though. We got our food, ate quickly, and then left. When we got back we invited Alex over to play Settlers of Catan (super addictive). Geetha won her first game, and the whole game in general made me feel like an American colonist, settling on Plymouth Rock or Jamestown, as the original 13 colonies of the United States of America was formed. I also subsequently wore my AMERICA shirt. YAY. Afterwards we headed to TapEx so Alex could eat, and so the rest of us could get delicious drinks (minus me & Geetha). We all came back to smelly La Regencia and played a long and tedious game of Uno. I got extremely frustrated after being constantly being attacked by Lauren. Alex won, and subsequently we all drove to park at the Muir Parking Lot at UCSD, proceeding to walk to Cliffs.

Cliffs adventure = fail. The gate was locked and a police was guarding it. I was tempted to jump over the fence and sneak over, using Rosario as a shield, but we subsequently took an alternate path, leading us to a better location with random fields that Geetha remembered. Tyler met up with us, and we watched a ton of firework in the skies – me naming all of them based on American presidents as well as our founding fathers. I subsequently used it for my picture of the day, as we all proceeded back to campus, with Tyler TRUNKING IT. We all played Catan one last time, and this time Lauren overpowered all of us. Tyler’s strategy consisted much of talking everyone against one another, but he lost as usual. Afterwards, me and Geetha walked Alex back to Doyle park so she wouldn’t get raped late at night. It was an extremely creepy path, so she subsequently drove us back home. HAPPY 4TH oF JULY EVERYONE.

History
In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the Continental Congress adopts the Declaration of Independence, which proclaims the independence of the United States of America from Great Britain and its king. The declaration came 442 days after the first volleys of the American Revolution were fired at Lexington and Concord in Massachusetts and marked an ideological expansion of the conflict that would eventually encourage France’s intervention on behalf of the Patriots. The first major American opposition to British policy came in 1765 after Parliament passed the Stamp Act, a taxation measure to raise revenues for a standing British army in America. Under the banner of “no taxation without representation,” colonists convened the Stamp Act Congress in October 1765 to vocalize their opposition to the tax. With its enactment in November, most colonists called for a boycott of British goods, and some organized attacks on the customhouses and homes of tax collectors. After months of protest in the colonies, Parliament voted to repeal the Stamp Act in March 1766. GO AMERICA! <24.
News
Senators and representatives crammed in their July 4 parades and other festivities Monday as Congress prepared to cut short its Independence Day break and resume talks over the need to raise the federal government’s debt ceiling. The Senate is set to return to work on Tuesday; House members follow suit on Wednesday. IDIOTS. <X24 Congress.
