Day 128: La Regencia, Here I come

May 8th, 2011

Homework. Housing. Homework. Dinner. Homework. Those five words, 3 of which are exactly the same, basically summarize my day. I woke up, did tons of reading, while at the same time consuming various donuts from PAW’s Admit Day in the process. Afterwards, Lauren came over, dropped off some apples, and we went “apartment-hunting”, in the form of visiting an apartment in Via Mallorca. Unfortunately, it took us about 25 minutes to find the place, and when we finally did we didn’t know which one it was. There was a 131 and a 231, but on the apartment listing it simply said “31”, so I called the woman (who didn’t pick up), so I left a voicemail saying we were no longer interested in the place because we could not find it. She called me after that point, but I was too scared to talk to her so I turned off my phone to ignore the problem. It was pretty much settled at that point then, that we were going to live in La Regencia. After talking to Tyler, I found out he already turned in the paperwork, which means the apartment is effectively no longer on hold, but instead officially ours – making our apartment visit pointless. Fun Fun Fun Fun. We visited the place to turn in the paperwork, but it was closed because of Mother’s day. DONE. When we got back, we walked back from Hopkins, and Lauren listened to the angry voicemail because I was too scared to do it. It effectively said something along the lines of: “It’s unfortunate as college students you don’t know how to use Mapquest to find an apartment. Good luck on finding an apartment… if you are able to locate it”. That’s jank, woman! SAD TIMES. But forget her, we have a place, and she has no renter >:(

Afterwards, Lauren and I came back to my place where I did some homework, and we talked to Amul a bit about Joyce, housing, among a vast plethora of other topics. Afterwards, I went to Thai Village with Alex, Matt, Amul, & Lauren for dinner. It wasn’t that great though, but it was definitely compensated by Coldstones, which was delicious, and directly across the street. We talked outside in the rain, putting on hoods on to protect ourselves and ate freezing cold ice cream. I’m definitely going to miss the three when they graduate (except for Alex, who’s effectively staying at UCSD for Grad School). When we were all done, we went home and I studied some more. I went to Price Center to study a bit with Geetha before calling it a night.

History
On May 8th, 1945, President Truman and Prime minister Churchill declared victory in Europe today, celebrating the defeat of Nazi Germany . Following the announcement huge crowds, many dressed in red, white and blue, gathered outside Buckingham Palace in London and were cheered as the King, Queen and two Princesses came out onto the balcony. FUN.
News
It’s not clear yet whether Simon Cowell’s new television talent show “The X Factor” has a theme song. But after hearing the roar of the crowd Sunday when he and Paula Abdul walked on stage together for the first time for the Fox series premiering this fall, here’s a suggestion: “Reunited.” The reunion between the former love-hate “American Idol” colleagues was preceded by plenty of offstage drama, so much so that it was in doubt much of the weekend whether Abdul’s deal would be ready in time for Sunday’s first day of auditions, which were held at USC’s Galen Center. The 48-year-old singer and choreographer, whose recent CBS reality show “Live to Dance” quickly faded, overshadowed Sunday’s auditions and now joins, along with her old “Idol” friend, Cheryl Cole and L.A. Reid as judges on the show. YAY X FACTOR.
