Week 4: Charting Kai’s Growth

Kai is growing in so many ways this week. Most notably by deciding to walk everywhere now. Though there are a bit stumbles here and there, and even though he looks a bit funny when he is walking, he will be unstoppable pretty soon! Nice kicks.

With more practice Kai is simultaneously getting better at eating solids. And as a result, getting slightly better sleep. I got slightly bored of the strategy of giving him things to hold and having him throw them on the ground, creating a chemical spill every day (at least it doesn’t threaten to blow up the city like the GKN leak). Instead, I now push his high chair around the house at different intervals giving him the opportunity to interact with different objects, most notably around the kitchen. It has worked to an extent, though he still picks and chooses when he wants to eat solids and when he wants to go back to purees. It’s a process, I suppose.

Summer school officially ends this week! Even though it was mostly easy, it was a bit difficult with Kai around. (Taking care of a 1 year old is already a full time job, so anything to do on top of that (mostly grading) is a bit challenging. Still, I found time to do so, to commit to the 5.5 hours required of the summer school job. Next week and hopefully month I can dedicate my entire life to taking care of Kai without having to worry about other responsibilities quite yet. Yay for full time fatherhood and catching up with peeps.

Kai’s sleeping habits aren’t getting particularly better. I acknowledge I did about a month well of waking up early at 6 AM to go running in January & February. Sadly, that stamina was insufficient and short-lasting. Now, the best time to go to the gym, which I recently re-joined, is after Kai falls asleep at roughly 8-830PM every night. It’s do-able now, but I imagine it’ll be much more of a struggle when the school year re-starts.

At Stanton’s 70th anniversary event, which I took Kai to, they gave out free Habit Burgers (which I obviously brought home for Katherine). But the peak moment of the event was running into a former student at Dale. He was one of my greatest students there (which is a notable accomplishment, because I did not teach Honors classes). He told me he had dreams of going to trade school, and even though I think he can do much better, I look forward to having him solve any toilet troubles I have in the future. Good luck with the rest of high school, Danny and hope you eventually pursue a higher path, like the AUHSD ambassador program. Greatness is in your destiny, much like Kai’s. But more-so Kai’s.
