Week 1: Single Fatherhood

I think this week would be a good example of what a single father would have to do. Summer break, while Katherine is at work, essentially equates me to being a single father to Kai and providing him for most of the day.

This week, I kept him on a very strict regiment.

At 7:30AM, I tried feeding him bananas in morning. Some days are more successful than thers.

By 8:30AM, I am at my mom’s place, where she agrees to watch him for roughly 60-120 minutes while I teach summer school (virtually US history ethnic studies through CVA).

I’m done with summer school (online) generally by 10:20AM, where I force Kai to knock by singing him some of my favorite songs. Including Westlife’s “Swear it Again”, a classic. He naps for about an hour.

We go home, and I feed him some more – some solids and some purees, whatever he happens to enjoy. Then he gets to play for an hour before time for his second nap (at around 2pm). Afterwards, we repeat the same process all over again until mommy gets home at around 6:30, giving him plenty of time to play in between.

Though this routine may seem kind of boring, it is pretty essential for a toddler in order to get him happy and healthy (and not, dare I say, overtired).

Of course, I had planned for “Fun Fridays”, where I would take Kai out for something fun and unique every Friday as a celebration to end the week on a high (reminiscent of Fairmont Friday field trips. Shoutout to summer camp!)

Of course, that was ruined this week by a sudden growth spurt that came out of nowhere. Kai’s molars came out, resulting in increased sleeplessness seemingly parallel to his newborn phase. What a sad, sad sad sleep regression. We’ll have to start fun Fridays next week.

Of course, that means Kai to gets enjoy playing at home, and indulging a life of luxury in his “new” ball pit.

PS: I hope his hair grows back faster, to hide his big forehead.
