Malcolm Gladwell wrote in his book Outliers that to really achieve “expertise” in any field, you really need 10,000 hours of practice.
As I rocked Kai to sleep for what would probably be at least the 500th time in his life I couldn’t help be notice a fluttering in my heart. Things are getting easier the more and more I do it. Like any skill in life. Now that I pay very close attention to wake windows, it’s not hard to get him to take his naps appropriately.
Obviously, this will continue to change as he continues to age upwards. The only thing about parenting is you have to quickly adapt to your child (you don’t have 10,000 hours to master a skill), because the kid will constantly be changing from one stage of his life into another. And thus parenting in a lot of ways, becomes experimental in nature.
Here’s hoping as I continue to rock Kai to sleep he’s having good dreams in the process.
