In science, students have been working on an egg drop vessel. The idea is that they are to engineer and construct a vessel that will protect an egg from a 20 feet drop.

It’s my first time teaching science (in person), and certainly my first time doing a project of this magnitude. The idea is that students are supposed to use scientific concepts learned in class (the laws of motion, force, velocity, etc) to construct their protective shell. The reality is they’re really just going with the flow and doing whatever, and not really using science to figure it out.

Still, the kids are having a little bit of fun in the process, as much fun as I’m having smashing their creations onto the concrete, so that’s got to count for something, right?

Someday I’ll be back in history where I belong, but till then, I gotta enjoy the science of it all.

^ Isn’t it great that some kids are sitting in the splash zone?
