A Covid Christmas

Well, it finally happened. After two or so years of escaping the SARS-COV-2 virus, it finally entered my body. Its origins? Remains to be seen.

I tested negative for the virus on December 22nd, right before Christmas, but I was already kind of exhibiting symptoms of a cough and sore throat then. Apparently though, you’re supposed to test “5 days after” you get symptoms to get an accurate test. So maybe it wasn’t exactly accurate at the time. That being said, I spent my Christmas as normal as I could, assuming I didn’t have the virus.

Until of course the week after – when I was alerted that someone in my family tested positive for the virus. At which point, I retested for the virus on December 27th. I got my results the day after, which notified me that I tested positive, and like a good little boy, I decided to quarantine the rest of the week away, effectively throwing away the rest of my winter break. Which sadly included a New Year’s Eve trip to Phil’s BBQ. Quarantine isn’t that bad though, since I ended up spending the time binging Cobra Kai and watching other shows. I was a little lonely in my room though as an extroverted introvert.

The irony of course is that I re-tested for the virus on Wednesday, but didn’t get my results back till Sunday. Negative. Which means I could have went to San Diego if I wanted to. Sad times.

Where did I get this virus? Well, it’s hard to say. Perhaps I got it before leaving for winter break from one of the students in my classroom. Perhaps I got it at Planet Fitness while breaking a sweat working out with a mask on. I went to get a cholesterol test on Monday the 20th at a Quest Diagnostic center. There were like 20 people in the room, many of which were testing for coronavirus at the same time. I’m going to assume I probably got the virus there. Serves me right for trying to take a proactive approach to my health.

Anyway, as far as the symptoms go, it felt like a regular cold. Certainly not as bad as previous colds I’ve had before. Stuffy nose. Sore throat. Cough. Pretty atypical symptoms. I’m going to assume it was a “mild” case because of the 3 Moderna shots I got, which gave me way worse side effects.

Am I sad my winter break was cut short by Covid? Yes. Am I happy that I didn’t infect anyone in my family? Yes. Anyway, I’m happy to say that I now have quadruple-immunity from the virus, until of course the next variant comes along…. Now to go back to school where I will potentially get infected some more from students who can’t wear a mask properly.

Stay safe out there folks, and continue wearing a mask. And get vaccinated if you haven’t already!!! Happy new year!
