The month of April is officially over, and it was quite a long one. I would argue April and May are the two longest months of a teacher’s life due to the lack of holidays and breaks transitioned in between. That’s why it’s wonderful that I scheduled two sick days in advance for next month (since I knew how overwhelming and long that month would ultimately be). I spent quite a significant chunk of time at work this month for at-work and after-work commitments (even on some Saturdays volunteering for special events).

I’d say the workload is pretty substantial, especially in comparison to last year, but I definitely am improving on all my flaws as an educator. I recently asked my principal if I could take kids on a field trip to go watch Captain America: Civil War, since we are covering the Civil War…. and she surprisingly said yes, even approving for the purchase of all the tickets. That keeps me excited for next week, since we’ll be watching the Thursday night premiere! That’s one of the perks of a charter school – more field trips and quality time with students!
I am still relatively burnt out though, so I will not be doing summer school this year, instead opting to relax at the summer camp I have worked at for the last 3 years. I don’t really consider it “work”, and I certainly wouldn’t be doing it for the minuscule pay – but instead to see the wonderful faces I miss so dearly over the course of this year. I most likely will also be moving out of my house near USC to opt for a cheaper living condition for next year. Commuting? Maybe.
I’ll end this with a note from Justin Timberlake, courtesy of N Sync’s height of popularity.
