Top 12 Memories of 2016

Another year gone down the drain, and what do I have to show for it this time?

2016 was a relatively uneventful year, which is probably the reason why I didn’t really do much blogging. That being said, I plan to go back to the 365 format next year with next year’s Project (which will be explained come January). In doing so, it will force me to at least “attempt” to do something interesting everyday of 2017.

In January I fully immersed myself in the Wellness Challenge at work, exposing me to USC’s track and field for a majority of the month. This gave me the opportunity to unwind and gather my thoughts after a long day of work (every day), teaching the 8th graders history and of course the mixed grade levels Technology. Needless to say I merely placed 2nd by the end of the challenge. Other than that I immersed myself into the Presidential race, hoping that Rand Paul would pull off a primary victory in Iowa….

February was a bad month, because it was the first time I have ever gotten sick since pretty much college. And it was very severe. I remember waking up on a Wednesday not be able to move, having to call off of work, and having to drive myself to go pick up medication. The drive was literally worse than driving drunk or driving tired (not that I’ve ever done either 😉 . Your body can barely function, but you know you have to survive the trip so that you can drink the medicine to feel better.

March’s highlight is of course Spring Break and getting to discover the Disney magic once again with Disney world’s four parks.

What the heck happened in April? Nothing that magical, sadly, although I did get to visit Phil’s BBQ twice. Still, I would say that work claimed most of my time that month, with the year beginning to wind down…..

May brought an end to the “teaching” portion of my job, climaxing in of course the greatest field trip to date provided by the school’s finances: Captain America Civil War 2!

June was fun, because I got to go Hawaii with students. (I got sick though), so I would say the real highlight of the month was taking students to Phil’s BBQ and giving them the opportunity to experience the magical taste of the baby back ribs.

In July, I survived another horrific car crash, and yet, lived to tell about it. The highlight of that month was of course working at Fairmont, where I got to yell and play with kids at the same time. I also started my Master’s that month, and the short-lived Pokemon Go craze consumed my life.

August started off pretty rocky, because I had to go back to the same school that brought me so much anguish year 1. To my surprise though, I did so much better in all aspects (including my rapport with students). To say I am happy I returned is an understatement, because I have met so many more wonderful people.

September marked the end of my commuting days, and a move-in to a fresh apartment near Alhambra. Even though the first month of living there wasn’t so hot, things picked up and improved from that point onwards.

September and October are kind of meshed together as being highlight months where my teaching most definitely improved. October’s Vegas trip with my parents was fun, especially since I got to reunite with my old friends from Vegas.

November’s main culminating event was of course the election that shocked everyone. That being said, I think November was when I realized how much fun I was having doing some community service events with the students. It brought back glimpses of my memory of how much fun I had leading these similar projects in high school.

December wasn’t that special. Christmas may be a magical holiday for most people, but some reason it brings me some slight despair. Highlight of this month? Universal Studios for sure!

Next year will be amazing. Get ready for Project 26. Details coming soon.
