Day 308: Netflix Fails.

November 4th, 2011
I actually slept in till 10 AM this morning, before I ultimately decided to go to campus. While there, I interviewed both Hiep and Elizabeth, before heading to the Bookstore to buy a USB stick. After my Poli class (while it was raining), I interviewed Tiffany at her apartment. Then, I went to MCC to video edit for a couple hours before heading back to Price Center. I ate dinner in the form of Panda while playing Sims – A.J. ran into me and we caught up for a bit, before I left to get some dessert at Burger King, a delicious M&M sundae as pictured above. I went to Geetha’s place afterwards as we consumed some leftover fried chicken and ultimately decided to watch movies in the rain. With not much of a variety available on Netflix anymore, I would say the company fails. Good thing I’m not actually paying for it (one month free trial). We settled on watching “Meet the Parents” which was a pretty hilarious movie.

History
A spontaneous national uprising that began 12 days before in Hungary is viciously crushed by Soviet tanks and troops on this day in 1956. Thousands were killed and wounded and nearly a quarter-million Hungarians fled the country. The problems in Hungary began in October 1956, when thousands of protesters took to the streets demanding a more democratic political system and freedom from Soviet oppression. In response, Communist Party officials appointed Imre Nagy, a former premier who had been dismissed from the party for his criticisms of Stalinist policies, as the new premier. Nagy tried to restore peace and asked the Soviets to withdraw their troops. The Soviets did so, but Nagy then tried to push the Hungarian revolt forward by abolishing one-party rule. He also announced that Hungary was withdrawing from the Warsaw Pact (the Soviet bloc’s equivalent of NATO). FAIL….
News
House Speaker John Boehner says he and President Barack Obama have a “pretty good relationship,” but he also criticized Obama for fomenting what Boehner called “class warfare” in the political debate over spending, taxes and job creation. In an interview broadcast Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” program, Boehner defended Republican opposition to efforts by Obama and Democrats to increase taxes on wealthy Americans as part of deficit reduction and job creation measures. CLASS WARFARE INDEED…. too bad both parties do it 🙁
