Day 264: The Prequel to Fall Quarter 2011

September 21st, 2011
With the school year fast approaching (COMING TOMORROW TO BE SPECIFIC), came the necessity for me to jam as much hanging out as possible in my schedule today. Subsequently, after work this morning and chatting with John Cuellar for a bit, I went to Price Center where I talked to Tran Tran for 10 minutes, and then departed for the computers. I bumped into Julia while there, and she and Rosario were conveniently also going to the UnOlympics Spirit Rally. My friend Michelle swung by and we walked all the way to Warren, to find out that unfortunately all the food was gone. FAIL. Subsequently, we hiked up SunGod lawn to get some delicious BBQ from Schmooze with Jews. It was Kosher so it wasn’t actually that great unfortunately….

Michelle departed. I ultimately left, busing all the way up to UTC to meet up with Henry, Sid, Luke, Soloman, and Sheng at Red Robin. They consumed some delicious burgers while I consumed their delicious fries, catching up with the details of their summer. When all was done, Luke and Sid departed for home, while Sheng somehow pressured me into going to Macy’s. It was pretty disgusting as they walked around for 5 minutes merely window shopping and saying at the end “We have no money anyway”. So in the end, we went to the Apple Store, played with a few Ipads, and departed, them visiting my apartment for a bit, and then me visiting their apartment in International Gardens immediately afterwards. I went back home to consume some cereal and prep myself for the next adventure of the day.

I bused on over to Howard’s place with Catan and Risk in hand as I proudly walked on over to their place from the bus stop. I caught up with the both of them there, attempting to take a picture of Leandro as he cut his own hair (but failed). Instead, I settled on taking a picture of the living room where me and Howard would later play some wonderful Mario Kart, which brought back lots of nostalgic thoughts back to my head. Leandro, Howard, and I later played Catan where Howard ultimately triumphed – beating me even though I was super close to winning. Afterwards Leandro and I picked up pizza after going to the bank, ate it, and finished our hanging out through the process of watching X Factor with Howard. The show isn’t exactly all that great, but I still prefer to the new and unimproved American Idol. With the night slowly coming to an end, I bused on home, and finished the night prepping myself for my first class tomorrow: Vietnamese.

History
On this day in 1780, during the American Revolution, American General Benedict Arnold meets with British Major John Andre to discuss handing over West Point to the British, in return for the promise of a large sum of money and a high position in the British army. The plot was foiled and Arnold, a former American hero, became synonymous with the word “traitor.” Arnold was born into a well-respected family in Norwich, Connecticut, on January 14, 1741. He apprenticed with an apothecary and was a member of the militia during the French and Indian War (1754-1763). He later became a successful trader and joined the Continental Army when the Revolutionary War broke out between Great Britain and its 13 American colonies in 1775. When the war ended in 1883, the colonies had won their independence from Britain and formed a new nation, the United States. WHAT AN ASSHOLE!
News
Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul, R-Tex., says he’d consider putting liberal lawmaker Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, in his cabinet if elected president, according to the Hill. Paul, speaking at an event hosted by the Christian Science Monitor on Wednesday, said his libertarian politics allowed him to see eye-to-eye with liberal counterparts on issues like war – and quipped that he’d have to consider creating a “Department of Peace” if he brought Kucinich, a frequent critic of American military action abroad, on board. WHAT AN AMAZING COMBINATION.

P.S.:
