Day 210: Philly Phil’s > Philly Cheesesteak

July 29th, 2011
With Adam Ratke already at my apartment this morning at the time I woke up, we went to brunch together…. the destination: Studio Dinner. After he convinced me using Youtube videos from the show “Diners, Drive Ins, and Dive ins”, I knew I had to order a Philly Cheestake at the diner (which was open 24/7). It was pretty delicious, but only about half as delicious as Phil’s would be later that day. When he dropped me back home, I said my goodbyes as he departed to UCSD campus one last time…

I spent the next couple hours watching in vast quantities episodes of Breaking Bad. In between, I would fall asleep and nap every 90 minutes or so. I was awoken, and got some Starbucks, brought it to Geetha at TapEx, and we chilled a bit before I headed back to my place, where I talked to Tyler for a bit. My friend John from EHS called and said Katherine Dao couldn’t go because her car broke down, so his friend Kevin drove me and Tyler. There was another girl in the car whose name I forgot. We went to Phil’s, waited in line for quite a long time, but entertained ourselves by talking and telling lots of racist jokes. We got our food, I got the El Toro, and chowed away. With the Philly Cheesesteak from brunch fresh in my mind, taking one bite into the Phil’s El Toro made me realize I was now eating the best thing known to humans. I chowed down my plate, and we got dropped off back at our apartment complex.

Immediately after we got back, we met up with Rosario, and walked to AMC La Jolla to watch nothing other than the epic movie Cowboys and Aliens. Coming in with low expectations, I came out thinking the movie was entertaining enough, but not exactly a blockbuster. It pretty much did everything it advertised, so I can’t really complain I guess. Both the twist mid-way through the movie and the ending were pretty stupid though. I ended the night relaxing at home.

History
On this day in 1958, the U.S. Congress passes legislation establishing the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), a civilian agency responsible for coordinating America’s activities in space. NASA has since sponsored space expeditions, both human and mechanical, that have yielded vital information about the solar system and universe. It has also launched numerous earth-orbiting satellites that have been instrumental in everything from weather forecasting to navigation to global communications. NASA was created in response to the Soviet Union’s October 4, 1957 launch of its first satellite, Sputnik I. The 183-pound, basketball-sized satellite orbited the earth in 98 minutes. The Sputnik launch caught Americans by surprise and sparked fears that the Soviets might also be capable of sending missiles with nuclear weapons from Europe to America. The United States prided itself on being at the forefront of technology, and, embarrassed, immediately began developing a response, signaling the start of the U.S.-Soviet space race. EHH… Government shouldn’t have funded it…
News
House Speaker John Boehner’s plan to raise the nation’s debt ceiling and slash government spending narrowly passed his chamber on Friday and then was blocked by Senate Democrats, setting up a weekend of negotiations to seek a deal that would avoid a potential federal default next week.
The Senate vote was 59-41 to table the measure, which effectively kills it unless Democrats decide to bring it up again. STUPID POLITICAL CHARADE CONTINUES….

P.S.: POKEMON
