I know it’s going to offend a few of you Americans that my blog title is in Spanish, but I figured I’d give the Mexicans a treat today. Tomorrow, which many people think is a celebration of Mexican independence, is actually a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride (set to the date where the Mexican army beat the French at the Battle of Puebla). Victory was, sadly, short lived. Honestly though, what the holiday really sadly amounts to is an excuse for many Americans to get drunk. As if we didn’t already have enough drunk holidays – in the form of St. Patrick’s day…. among other things.
My day was a day full of work, and socializing. I worked at SRC first, then put up room signs in Leichtag for EH&S, then helped clean up UCSD Cares Week tables/chairs with Tiffany, Spencer, and Jen. It was blistering hot out in the heat, but I was able to convince my friend Michelle Truong to buy some boba from alternative breaks subsequently. Tyler passed by and we talked about housing and Warren TV for a bit. I also ran into Alec Weisman and we talked a bit about politics, before he headed off about to make a hilarious speech to A.S. Shrug! Which reminds me, the first Republican Presidential debate is tomorrow! Next, I went back to my apartment to rest for a bit, prepping my entire body for the Res-Council Dinner of the century. I put on a gray shirt, but it was all messed up, so Geetha attempted to straighten it with a hair straightener. FAIL. I help Geetha, Bee-John, and Adam do most of the setting up for dinner before getting ready to get down and dirty with Mexican food. The theme of the dinner was Cinco de Mayo, which is actually tomorrow (it’s cuatro de mayo today, but I don’t see myself celebrating cinco tomorrow!). The Res-Council Dinner itself was relatively fun, one I could actually attend the whole time due to the lack of class conflict this quarter. Bee-John’s hilarious hosting skills, combined with the enthusiasm of all the guests ultimately made it more enjoyable. Present were representatives from all 7 residential areas (except Marshall), and including: me, Geetha, Bee-John, Adam, Windi, Tyler, Amul, Alex, Matt, Yammi, Charlene, Cindy, Jorge, Nicole, Lauren, Martha, Rashika, and others whose names I have forgotten. It was funny because to stretch the dinner Bee-John allowed us to ask random questions to the people speaking, and I asked Amul and Alex what they would do with their experience as chairs in the immediate future. When it was my turn to speak, and I gave my spheel about UCSD Cares through flyers, I got interrogated a mass exodus of hilarious and stupid questions from Adam, Bee-John, Lauren, Cindy, & Windi. When all was done, it was time for clean-up, but first a surprise: Pinata hitting! We all went outside to get down and dirty and play with the Pinata. I snapped a picture of the festivities as I was the first one to attempt doing so. I failed, but so did the girl after me. After all efforts, I just hit the pinata like a baseball bat, and candy popped out magically. When that was done, and clean-up was all finished up, me, Geetha, & Rashika all went to the ICRA office to drop off supplies.
Immediately after, I went with Geetha to CSB to both entertain her as well as help her with COGS3 Hwk. And now I’m reminded of how much I hate programming… Afterwards, we went back to my place to pick up 24 (season 4), went to her place to watch 24 – but because she got caught up in talking girl drama with her apartment-mates I subsequently proceeded towards the direction of home! Happy Fourth of May!

| U.S. President Barack Obama will visit New York’s ground zero Thursday, days after a nighttime raid in Pakistan led to the death of the terror leader behind the attacks that toppled the twin towers. Obama’s visit will include a wreath-laying ceremony, the White House said. He does not plan to deliver a speech. He will also visit Engine Company 54, which lost 15 firefighters in the terror attacks on September 11, 2001. |
