Day 111: Phil’s To Go

April 21st, 2011

Make a wish. It’s day 111! In all seriousness, today I went to class, ate lunch at Pines with Bee-John and Geetha, while simultaneously asking for blood donors for ICRA’s blood bash. In total I got somewhere around 15-17 people, including Cindy (through the process of yelling at people). I then proceeded to my next two classes – one of which, my history class, was moved to the Robinson Auditorium, so I had to go all the way to Rimac to get there, take the stupid quiz, and watch Blau Jeans. It was nice seeing Gail again though, bumping into her there (she was there to get extra credit for her German class). I then proceeded to my first Spring Quarter Office Hours, where Yammi, Charlene, Cindy, and Bee-John all came to make posters. Afterwards, I went to my last class, before heading to Phil’s with Adam and Jessica. The line was still long, so for the first time in Phil’s history, I got it to go. We went to Adam’s place, exchanged stories about Ben, Adam’s OCD ex-suitemate from Freshman year with Jessica and David, before I bus’ed my way back to campus. Now I’m in a massive food coma not sure if I should sleep or work.

On April 21st, 1989, 100,000 students gather at Beijing’s Tiananmen Square to commemorate Hu Yaobang the deposed reform-minded leader of the Chinese Communist Party and voice their discontent with China’s authoritative communist government. This was the beginning of the mass demonstrations in Tiananmen Square, Beijing prior to the Chinese Government declaring martial law in May of the same year which led to the June Massacres by Chinese troops killing hundreds of demonstrators and arresting thousands of protesters and other suspected dissidents. WOW.
