Day 98: From Sun to Rain

April 8th, 2011

Even though the weather fluctuated between sun and rain the entire day, concluding with a mass exodus of rain, the day itself was a very enjoyable one. After waking up in the morning and going to my ICRA 1on1 with Jorge, I proceeded to work a great amount of hours at Environment, Health and Safety. While there I had quite pleasant conversations with John Cuellar, and one of my co-workers asking me if all I did at work was go on facebook. I answered with a reluctant “No”. Geetha came, and we went to eat Pines. YUM! Delicious stir-fry! We proceeded immediately to the Literature Building in Warren to complete our Academic Internship Program forms. I ranked several internships on my list, which included 2 NBC Creative internships, one for some Mozart Concert, and one for the La Jolla Playhouse. Fingers crossed! Meetings next week for Orientation & Interview with Counselor! Exciting.

Geetha and I proceeded to Warren afterwards to hang out for a bit, before ultimately meeting Bee-John at the 202 Bus Stop. We proceeded to Pick Up Stik, where we ate and where I took a picture. YUM, Fake Chinese food. I still think I prefer Panda Express though. We went to Sprinkles where we tried to whisper the password (there was no line), but ultimately failed, because the first 50 people already came and went. We went to Whole Foods because BeeJohn is rich and can afford that stuff – he took a ridiculously long amount of time as me and Geetha patiently waited for him. By the time we got back Bee-John got bored and left us for a nap, as me and Geetha met up with Rashika in Warren, near Earl’s. While there we rested at my place, before ultimately going to the Student Activity Center to play a few rounds of Scattergories. Intermittedly Alex would join us, and we would play with her, and Lauren would join us, and we would play with her. I lost, as usual. Rashika was good at the game, in contrast to the next game we played, Adverteasing, a trivia game on advertising that was terribly difficult. Alex and Lauren are apparently really good. I guess me and Geetha are just terrible at both. LOL. Anyway, we ended the night watching “The Terminal”, which was both a funny and cute movie at the same time, teaching the lesson that you don’t have to end up “the girl” to be happy. As the night played out, I had to end up sleep early for tomorrow’s…. ADMIT DAY.

As for A.S. Elections, I didn’t bother to go to Round Table to hear election results. What I did hear throughout the entire day was there are judicial hearings for GRIEVANCES, up from 4 PM to when I ultimately decided to end the night (past 1 am). Hopefully we’ll all find out tomorrow who wins what.

History
On April 8th, 1990, Twin Peaks, an American Emmy Award winning television serial drama created by David Lynch and Mark Frost premieres on ABC . The series was set in the fictional town of Twin Peaks, Washington. and, in its short first season, was one of the network’s highest rating television programs receiving immen’se critical acclaim. Never watched it, but will at some point. It’s of some cultural significance anyway.
News
Democrats and Republicans narrowly averted a partial shutdown of the federal government Friday night, agreeing on a budget deal and a short-term funding extension little more than an hour before the clock struck midnight and time ran out. The new funding extension, which cuts spending by $2 billion, will last through next Friday, April 15. The Senate immediately passed the extension on a voice vote. The House of Representatives followed suit early Saturday morning. A senior White House official told CNN that President Barack Obama is expected to sign the short term continuing resolution into law later Saturday. And administration and congressional officials made clear that there would be no lapses in government funding. PHEW, that was a close one.

P.S.: Rebecca
