Day 126: Risky Business

May 6th, 2011

It’s 2:30 AM, and I have to wake up at around 8AM tomorrow to table for Transfer Admit Day, but I figured I might as well blog about the day’s events while I’m still awake. I woke up around roughly 9:30 this morning, got ready for my day, and proceeded immediately to ICRA 1 on 1’s with Jorge. After discussing various issues, I went to EH&S to wash some carts for my boss. In the process I picked up my laptop at my apartment, and saw Henry, dropping him off at Pepper Canyon (saving him a bit of a walk). I then went to SRC and for a majority of the time worked on improving the website. When that was all done, I went over to the Sixth College Quad for Sixth College’s annual Chocolate Festival. It was okay, but I was volunteering most of the time, eating the maximum limit of 3 pieces of chocolate fondue. I technically volunteered with Charlene, Yammi, Lucia, and Geetha, among a few other Co-Board members as I screamed at them to hurry up and get their three pieces and leave. People with attitude obviously responded rudely, including one of the Sixth College RA’s named Arman. It sucks being the enforcer of laws. In the process though I saw Matt, Alex, Adam Powers, Louise, Daniel, and Michelle (among other people). I left before my shift ended though tired and angry, going to my room to rest for a bit. Having starved the whole day, I met up with Geetha at Goodies, and we proceeded to Mt. Olympus, where I found out I don’t like humus. Too healthy. BOO. I saw Tiffany and Robbie there.Event was well organized though for the most part.

As I began heading towards the bus to go off campus, I saw Cindy, Alex, and Lauren on the way and talked to them subsequently for a bit, about absolutely nothing of importance. When I went on the bus, I proceeded to go to Howard’s place for the “400 Reunion”. Hence forward comes a review of the reunion.

If you’re looking at a logistical standpoint regarding the 400 reunion, it was a failure, because only 4 out of 7 of the hardcore 400 members came. But then again, it was highly unlikely that Victor, Austin, and Ryan (now having better lives, and better parties), were going to hang out with us anyway (especially since we rarely saw them sophomore year anyway). It ended up ultimately being a Douglas 3001 Reunion, with Jonathan Chou also being present (+ Howard, + Leandro, + Torrie Bear). We went to Phil’s, we waited in line, we ate, I took pictures. Chad wasn’t there unfortunately, so I didn’t get my “special treat”. It was super awkward though because every time I talked to the staff there I said “Chad had a special treat for me”, and they might have misconstrued it in a way. When we were done, we all headed back to campus, where I treated them to Earl’s drinks. They all got something, making my mealpoints ultimately come out to… 4 dollars ahead. :D. We saw Leah, and that made the reunion slightly interesting, but still not as fullfilling as one would expect. I made some rude comments, as always. I picked up Risk and Bang at my apartment with Chou, and proceeded back to the car. We went back to Howard’s place, hearing Fireflies along the way, as we prepared to game on.

In the process of “gaming”, Howard was trolling the entire game of Risk and ultimately died first (me killing him in revenge for his evil actions). My picture of the day however was of the key moment in the game where I felt most powerful, controlling the immediate North American continent. YAY AMERICA. Eventually that would wither away slowly, as Torres killed Chou, and Leandro killed me – the two settling on a two way tie/alliance. Apartment win? Then we played Bang, where in both rounds the dynamite helped ending up securing the sheriff’s fate: death. I placed both dynamites. Immediate death for Sheriff Torres, and a slow and painful Death for Sheriff Corpuz. Good times. Afterwards me and Chou walked to his place, I checked out his apartment, before he kindly dropped me back on campus.

In terms of the reunion, it was fun, and brought back some nostalgic memories of sophomore year. It’s obviously never going to be the same as it used to be, but some aspects of it were key in establishing why we all kind of sort of still maintain contact. At the end of the day, I felt reunited with the friends I used to live why. Sophomore Year, Douglas 3001, <24.

History
On May 6th, 1882, Congress passed the Chinese Exclusion Act, which barred Chinese immigrants from the United States for 10 years. Ironic cause I just learned about this in my Cultural History class, and used it on my midterm on Tuesday.

News
Al Qaeda warnings against the United States emerged Friday as the materials taken from Osama bin Laden’s compound continued to yield a trove of intelligence, including details about a possible attack on the 10th anniversary of 9/11. Al Qaeda, the bin Laden terrorist network that carried out the deadly attack in 2001, confirmed its leader’s death on Friday in a Web statement and used that opportunity to taunt and threaten the United States. EEEK 🙁
