Day 49: Let it Rain.

February 18th, 2011

Yesterday was the official start of the rain season here at UCSD. Apparently for the next ten days, it’s going to be raining (semi hard / semi not hard). Today it was actually really hard, and I took a picture of my balcony view, because it looked nice in the dark, although it’s quite hard to see the rain in the picture. But rain is a good thing, not because Luke Bryan says so, but because it brings me back to the days of my youth…. and INDOOR RECESS. I liked recess as a kid, but I liked indoor recess more because I didn’t have to do any physical activity… hence developed a growing obsession with playing boardgames.! In the words of JoJo, But I had to let go of the pain, let love rain down on me. Cause you helped me open up my eyes, show me things I could never see. Cause we can fight and we make up. Wanna see you when I wake up. I’m staying with you only. Cause I need you to show me how our love should really be.

Anyway, today I woke up, had lunch with Geetha at Pines, went to class, and then went to my ICRA office hours. It was strange because the computer guy helped me set up the computer manually, but then I find out later that it was already set up the day before. Shrug. Geetha & Cindy ended up crashing my office hours, and we made posters, while listening to some Luke Bryan in honor of the rain. We then went to Goodies to get some dinner before the big executive board meeting where Amul, Lauren, Jorge, Windi, Adam, Rashika, and Bee-John joined us. Adam and Windi simulated being martians and wasted quite of bit of peanut butter and jelly in doing so. At the end of the meeting, we all shuttled back to our apartments. Rashika & Geetha was going to go to Earl’s, but becasue it was raining so hard, they decided to take refuge at my place in an effort to escape the rain. In doing so, we played (with Amul) a round of Loaded Questions, Rashika left, we went to SAC and rented/watched Cloverfield. It was a decent movie, because I actually felt a sense of attachment to the characters. Then Rashika came back, and we watched Shutter Island. I still really don’t like the movie, feeling it was really slow. That’s just my opinion though. Then we stayed up till about 4:30 AM talking. Now that’s when you know you have really good friends, when you can stay up for countless hours talking about useless things. It’s okay, we all needed to vent anyway. Afterwards there was a slumber party, where I ended up sleeping on the floor, and Rashika & Geetha took my blanket. Good night !

A state Capitol thrown into chaos swelled for a fifth day with thousands of protesters, as supporters of Republican efforts to scrap the union rights of state workers added their voices to the debate for the first time and GOP leaders insisted again Saturday there was no room for compromise. Supporters of Gov. Scott Walker and his effort to ease Wisconsin’s budget woes gathered on the east side of the Capitol, surrounded by a much larger group of pro-labor demonstrators who since Tuesday have filled the Capitol with chanting, drum-beats and anti-Walker slogans. Walker has proposed requiring government workers to contribute more to their health care and pension costs and largely eliminating their collective bargaining rights. OH MYYYYY.
On February 18th, 2009, The Pittsburgh couple that filed a legal claim at Google’s Street View for violating their privacy have had their case thrown out by a federal judge. Christine and Aaron Boring had sued the search giant after photos of their home appeared on the free mapping program. The couple accused Google of privacy violation, negligence, trespassing and unjust enrichment. In her ruling, Judge Amy Reynolds Hay said the Borings had ‘failed to state a claim under any count.’ The Borings live on a driveway labeled ‘Private Road,’ and they claimed that Google would have had to have taken pictures from it. Stupid idiots.

P.S.: “Dear Roberta Sparrow, I have reached the end of your book and… there are so many things that I need to ask you. Sometimes I’m afraid of what you might tell me. Sometimes I’m afraid that you’ll tell me that this is not a work of fiction. I can only hope that the answers will come to me in my sleep. I hope that when the world comes to an end, I can breathe a sigh of relief, because there will be so much to look forward to.” – Donnie Darko.
