Day 35: RetroPHILia

February 4th, 2011

Today was a special day, for a variety of multiple reasons – some I will elaborate on, and some that I will not. First, and foremost it’s kind of not so obvious but 2/4 is the official date of today, making it correlate directly with the TV show (slightly…). The picture of the day is dedicated to this amazing date, from Phil’s BBQ to YOU.

Today, I woke up and walked over to Mimi Tran’s place. It’s a bummer we haven’t hung out all year cause she really is a super nice person. We awaited Tanya and Earle’s arrival, and subsequently after went to Phil’s BBQ, which had a roughly 24 minute wait (no kidding). I could tell Tanya really liked the ribs because 5 minutes after eating she was like “I should bring David here.” (her military boytoy). Anyway, we scheduled a Phil’s Trip on St. Patrick’s Day cause that’s when she’s picking him up from the airport. Cool beans. Anyway, we all went back to chill for a bit at Mimi’s Place, until she had to leave to go home toget New Year’s money from her family back in Orange County. Everybody left, and I proceeded to class.

After class I went to ICRA office hours, which was good, with Geetha visiting. I did a bit of inventory, but realized that the office really didn’t need to all be inventoried cause we labeled everything already…. After, I went to go borrow her camera (because Earle’s camera kind of broke and I returned it to him in the morning), and then got some boardgames immediately meeting Howard at the bus stop in order to arrive to my former apartment-mate’s place. While there, I talked to John Torres and we caught up for a bit, until Alexis and Leandro finally arrived. Where were we going to go for dinner? Phil’s, again. Of course. The wait was now an hour long while we were there, and it was nice catching up to some people I haven’t talked to/hung out with in a while. I also told Earle to take a screenshot of me with the live BBQ cam, and it was really nice he followed through. Anyway, we ate, caught up, and chilled. It was like old times again, and Fireflies, the song I blasted all of Sophomore Year while we were living together played on the radio. It was truly epic because 10 seconds before it played, I was talking about how Lee Dewyze deserved to win American Idol because he sang fireflies (despite it kind of sucking a little). When we got back, me, Leandro, Howard, and Torrie bear played Bang, which was fun – with me ultimately dying first, and Deputy Howard losing to the Outlaw Leandro. Torres left for a party while Tyler arrived. We then proceeded to play Loaded Questions, which got boring after us being “dirty” for an hour. We then played Cranium: Scribblish which was a nice, cute little game. Howard was really tired though, she we called it a night, Tyler walked me back, and the night was over.

Schedule of classes also came out, which I am planning right now! (2 AM in the morning). Spirit Night tomorrow :). Happy 2/4 everyone!

PS: Retrophilia means a love of the past. In applying Phil’s to the title of today’s blog, I felt the need to say how much I loved Sophomore Year (and playing Boardgames all year), despite the drama that ensued and consumed it.

Two co-chairs of the House Bi-Partisan Privacy Caucus have asked Mark Zuckerberg to reveal secrets about Facebook’s ever-changing privacy policy in a letter sent this week. Rep. Edward Markey, D-Massachusetts, and Rep. Joe Barton, R-Texas, sent the bipartisan request Wednesday with a deadline: Zuckerberg has 15 business days to cough up the answers. The congressmen’s intrigue centers on Facebook’s recent announcement – and postponement – of a plan to make the addresses and cell phone numbers of its users available to third-party websites and application developers (apps). Politics. Fail.

On February 4th, 1938, The animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was released and had major success in the box-office, making more money than any other motion picture up till that point. YAY, Go Disney. Protect your corporate interests. Aladdin > Lion King > Toy Story 3 > Despicable Me > Tangled! 🙂
