I just found out the gender of my future baby will be a…. boy. This is our last Christmas as a family of two.

With that said, I wanted to take the time to acknowledge some television dads I will be drawing inspiration from as I enter a new chapter of life.
Jack Bauer, 24: He is the ultimate father, able to save the life of his daughter (many many times), and doing everything within his power to maximize 24 hours in a day. I hope I will be able to simultaneously balance 24 hours of non-stop action, potential crying, and drama.
Homer Simpson, The Simpsons: Though a bit neglectful and clueless at times, Homer Simpson still embodies the joy that is being a parent, and doing everything to support his family.

Also remember he sacrificed his life and stuck with a terrible job just for his family:

Sandy Cohen, The OC: adopted and took care of Ryan Atwood, giving him the best advice (like a father would), and always doing what was best for him. Though I don’t plan my child becoming a juvenile delinquent, I hope to embody the spirit of compassion he gave both his “children”.
Hal, Malcolm in the Middle: Before he broke bad, Bryan Cranston was the embodiment of a great dad, able to do all that was right for his children. Though Lois was particularly crazy, he embodied the spirit of childhood and did what was right for his children (which sometimes resulted in madness). His easygoing personality balanced out his wife’s more abrasiveness.

Hank Hill, from King of the Hill, was a pretty conservative father, but taught great lessons to his son in the process. Hopefully my son will be as calm as Bobby Hill. His passion for propane will match my passion for Phil’s BBQ.

Uncle Iroh (Avatar the Last Airbender): Though not a father in a traditional sense, Uncle Iroh’s ability to see the goodness in Zuko allowed him to eventually turn good. Thank you for your wise words of wisdom and thoughtfulness.
