March 2016 Updates

March2016

It’s March 2016, and I’ll be blatantly honest. I have no idea where my life is headed of this month. Will I continue teaching next year? Will I pursue a Master’s degree? Will I still be in living in Los Angeles? Those are all important questions for me to answer, and important discussions I need to have in order to prepare for the future.

Teaching is rather difficult. Most teachers quit within the first five years. I’m not sure if I will be able to have the stamina to do so for 29 more years (the number of years it would take to reach the maximum retirement benefits on the CalStrs pension system). If that’s the case, I better decide now which alternative path I want to take into the future. Will it be curriculum design, mentoring, administration, or possibly even evolving into a professor?

I’m not sure if I want to stay in Los Angeles next year. If I decided to resettle in Orange County with the job I have now, the commute might be painful. I started listening to more podcasts to prepare for that possibility though.

Friends are friends, and if we go our separate ways than so be it. I had the wonderful opportunity to reunite with some in Disneyworld this month.

Here’s to hoping April is just as wonderful (even though there’s no Spring Break). April and May will be by farthest, the most difficult stretch (and quarter) of teaching.
