Professional Development

I am usually pretty neutral about professional development. I understand the purpose of it sometimes, but other times it can feel a bit like a waste of time.

And yet I’ve never encountered the amount of negativity in teachers as I have ever encountered at Kennedy. With arguably the best students I’ve ever taught in my life, it’s quite interesting to see what teachers find to complain about.

I guess they have no frame of reference or perspective. They don’t understand how much harder it is at other schools in the district. In comparison to all the work we had to do at Bright Star Schools, enduring a couple of hours of professional development is no big deal to me.

Maybe my principal said it best – middle school teachers are in it for the students and high school students are in it for the content. I find myself going back and forth on what I’m in it for.
