In The Simpsons, Season 6 Episode 13, Homer Simpson decides to quit his dream job working at a bowling alley to take a job he hates at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant. His evil boss Mr. Burns places a plaque above Homer that reads “Don’t forget, you’re here forever.” In honor of his daughter, he covers up the plaque with pictures of his daughter (Maggie). And remembers his reason for enduring through daily pain.
Do It For Her.
Obviously this post would come out a lot better if Kai came out female. But alas, I have to work with what I have. I now have a reason for enduring 200+ middle schoolers on a daily basis. So now every time my boss says to “remember my why”, instead of thinking about Phil’s BBQ and rolling my eyes, I will think of Kai.
So when I’m up in the middle of the night again tonight changing his diaper and losing sleep, I will remember who I’m doing it for. When I have a bad day at work, which will happen at some point again (just the nature of working at a middle school), I will remember who I’m doing it for.
Do It for Him.
But I will always remember the real reason why I’m enduring through parenthood, and who was there first before Kai even came into the picture.
Do It For Her.
