Here’s my spotify unwrapped for this year, most notably my most played artists and 25 most played songs of the year.
A couple caveats about this list. I really don’t listen to music the way I used to anymore. The majority of the time I am listening to music only when I am driving. This means I usually default to shuffling my entire pre-existing song pool (resulting in the Glee Cast still remaining in the top 5 after all these years).
I discover music primarily through the discover music feature on spotify, which sometimes gives me cool songs to add, but mostly gives me songs I would never otherwise give a chance.
If I was in high school or college I’d be consuming more music in my downtime, but those patterns have changed, meaning that I only really listen to music on the computer when I am seeking an artist or album.
Two things I dislike about Spotify’s unwrapped in particular: it’s not a true representation of the entire year, since the cutoff date was today (November 29th). Also, I don’t like that they don’t include the personal playcounts. I’d like to see how many times I played each song, like I used to on Itunes, which allowed me to play the songs I liked more in order to self-manipulate the data.
In the end, I imagine as I get older I’ll keep listening to many of my pre-existing songs on my spotify (1606 as of today), and slowly add more over time.
