I sporadically text the parents of students to encourage them to continue to help their child to be good.
I try to maintain a ratio of 90% positive messages home to 10% negative messages to keep my sanity as a teacher. Google voice is a godsend when it comes to communicating with parents.
I am eternally grateful I can continue to support students in this way. Some parents only get a message home when their child is bad, so it’s important to give some positive messages so the parents can have a glimpse of hope that their child is good. One parent thought their child made someone else text home to lie for their parent and called me to confirm the text message was indeed real. I hope to continue to inspire students and parents as much as possible as I continue in the field of education.
