The weather is quite unpredictable, and yet still is a force that can wreck havoc and destruction on many people. Luckily for us, the hurricane that was projected to eventually hit Southern California was downgraded to a mere tropical storm. Yet, school districts were scrambling to figure out whether to remain open or not today. Luckily for me the Anaheim Union High School District was proactive and cautious, opting to cancel school for today (and giving me an extra day off). Not sure it was the right decision though seeing how mild the weather is today.
I guess the best way for me to measure how “strong” this tropical storm actually was is the spider cobwebs on the side mirror of my car. If they were washed off, it clearly was quite strong and menacing. However, as you can see in the picture below, the spiderwebs stayed- subsequently showing the weakness of the storm (at least in Garden Grove).

Still, I foresee this will not be the first day schools will be closed in my lifetime due to the weather. The threat of climate change is real and will happen sooner rather than later. Seeing our country’s lack of collective and unified response in response to Covid worries me people probably won’t take it seriously until it is too late.
