Vietnamese Car Accidents

After 5.5 years of driving without crashing into anything on a street, I crashed into another car today. Luckily, it was a relatively minor accident without any airbags going off.

While driving straight on a street I noticed that the streets turned into freeway entrances without labels. Needing to change quickly, I changed lanes, thinking no car was behind me. Unfortunately, I did not check my blind spot and accidentally crashed into a Vietnamese elderly man.

We pulled over quickly into a neighboring gas station where he looked at the back of his car (no damage), and then the front of my car (lots of damage). He said “You’re Vietnamese…. I won’t charge you.” I guess I go tthe Vietnamese discount. And then he said it was okay, driving off into the sunset. I was a little relieved, but I noticed as he was driving off there WAS INDEED damage to the front side of his vehicle, but before I could even notify him he had already driven away. So I got lucky, somewhat.

Unfortunately, the damage was already done to my car, and now I will have to decide ultimately how to fix the front right side of my car.

It doesn’t look too bad in the pictures, so I imagine the cost will be upwards of perhaps $600 or so. I’m sad that karma again has bit me in the face. I must continue to be a good person to avoid getting into future car accidents. I’m still waiting for the fully automated cars of the future to save me from future peril. I’m looking at you Tesla, Google, or Apple. Develop one soon!!!
