Day 30: Andres Sinohui’s Vegan Fantasies

I told Andres Sinohui today that if he dated a vegetarian she wouldn’t actually be a vegetarian because… you know.

Andres is always the most effective organizer of our community potlucks at Rise Kohyang Middle School. Thanks to him, I have now benefitted from many potlucks without any contributing anything (the free-rider effect). But alas, his most unique characteristic is his vegan lifestyle.

Though he’s only been a vegan for about 10 years, he will never go back to eating meat. When his homeroom (Columbia) beat my homeroom (USC) at ultimate frisbee today, they all said I had to go vegan. I refuse because they are all losers.

Andres Sinohui’s motivations for being vegan is primary for ethical reasons. He doesn’t think humans should eat animals. At the same time, he is not that judgmental towards those that do. I think he realizes society has largely conformed to that lifestyle, although more and more people are seemingly moving towards the vegetarian and vegan lifestyle, especially in the state of California.

He made a vegan burger for me today. The “patty” is made out of grains, and the “cheese” is made out of coconut. It was certainly “interesting” tasting, but tasted better than the Phil’s BBQ veggie burger at least.

I hope Andres knows I largely respect his lifestyle for I would never be able to live it. Thanks to him for a beautiful friendship, and the most beautiful vegan I will ever meet in my life. If a Vegan and a Phil’s BBQ lover can be friends, perhaps we can bridge political divides and end the increasing polarization in the United States. Just kidding, that’s never gonna happen.
