Day 5: Mr. Sinohui

Today I had the brilliant opportunity to celebrate a birthday with the 5th teacher on our list, Mr. Sinohui, the head honcho of the “Inclusive Education” department. It was at a Vegan restaurant, so the food wasn’t particularly edible, but the company was, if you know what I mean. 😉

Now technically he doesn’t interact with students in a traditional classroom setting, but he has to work with all the SPED students, which I would argue is harder than passing a kidney stone.

Anyway, I’d like to think we both have grown tremendously since coming to Rise, me struggling with management my freshman year, and him struggling with his SPED kids subsequently. Since then, we have both dramatically grown while maintaining friendship. And even though we currently don’t see eye to eye on how to handle the worst student I have ever taught, I’d like to think we ultimately want what is best for our students. He’s looking out for one of his demented SPED students, while I’m looking out for the rest of the students in that class.

His speech yesterday solidified our friendship, him thanking a group of teachers that acknowledging he’ll never meet such a great group of people again.

Thanks for all the Dodger Days, and all the “potlucks” that I never bring food to, but freeload off all the time. Also, thanks for making me look better at last year’s holiday party. Dance like a champion
