Day 16: A Clean, Well-Lighted Place

Today I went to the cleanest, and one of the most well-“lit” places of all, that of the magical location of Disneyland. The characters I went with were similar to the characters in the short story, being that I went with both old and young people to make the day a rather strange combination.

After meeting/picking up losers from their hotels in Garbage Grove, we descended towards the most magical place in America. I will subsequently list and rate all of the wonderful experiences from the start of the day to the ending.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission: Breakout: The new “Tower of Terror” ride is a little bit too fast, that I couldn’t really process what was going on. Plus, people were screaming every time it dropped so I couldn’t even hear what the characters were saying. While The Twilight Zone ride had more of a buildup to the drops, this one gave you one right after the other. It was fun though, and certainly increased my heart rate. 3 Stars.

Radiator Springs Racers: The Cars Ride! This is just lovely, and a simple ride sure to entertain both kids and adults alike. 4 Stars.

Grizzly River Run: It’s like the ride at Knott’s (Big Foot Rapids) except much faster and with some slight drops. I definitely got soaked in the process. 4 Stars.

Toy Story Midway Mania!: It was fun shooting at the targets, even if my hand ended up hurting in the long run. I did beat my partner though. 4 Stars.

Soarin’ Around the World: Absolutely breathtaking! I loved seeing the sights around the world, and it just makes me want to travel more. 5 Stars.

The Little Mermaid – Ariel’s Undersea Adventure: A little underwhelming after all the other rides, to be honest. I still like the music though. 2 Stars.

It’s a Small World: Still a classic. The dolls are a little old and rusty though, as far as I could tell, and they have yet to incorporate Vietnamese dolls inside. I imagine they could portray them eating dog pho or something. 3 Stars.

Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin: We waited like 50 minutes for this ride, and it was lame, to be honest. 2 Stars.

Peter Pan’s Flight: Another child’s ride that was a bit underwhelming. It does feel magical being in the air, but I’d much rather be on Aladdin’s Magic Carpet. 2 Stars.

Space Mountain: This ride was super exhilarating as always, and isn’t as annoying as a traditional roller coaster. I had mixed emotions all throughout the ride causing me to scream random obscenities throughout the entire voyage. At the end of the day, it was magical. 5 Stars.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Yo Ho Yo Ho a Pirate’s Life for me. Nuff’ Said. I’m a little upset they’re going to remove the bride auction scene from the ride, considering it is a part of history. 3 Stars.

World of Color: A wonderful end to our day, as I marveled on the magical scenes Disney has given me throughout the year. As bad as it is to worship a corporation, Disney has created much magic throughout the years in the entertainment mediums they have provided through their films. I will never quite forget my experiences as a kid watching Aladdin and the Lion King over and over and over again. 5 Stars.

The problem with Disneyland, especially trying to do so much in one day, is that it often leads to fatigue and pain. The law of diminishing returns comes to mind – as the day gets longer you get more tired and numb and might not appreciate the nuisances of each ride as you would have at the beginning of the day. Running on 3 hours of sleep from the previous night I could say it was already rather difficult for me to function properly. It was a good thing, however, that it wasn’t nearly as crowded as previous instances where I have been to the park. That being said, it was an fun adventure, and I hope to see my friends again soon.

Side note: We saw some weirdos reading in line. That’s cool, I guess, but it begs the question, who even reads anymore?

Good for them, I guess. They are well verse in Lit, and are hella’ Lit as a result.
