Day 9: Annie Tran & Jenny Tran

Out of the 4 sisters that I have in my immediate family, these are my two favorite. Why? Because they happen to be the siblings I communicate the most with on a weekly basis.

We have had plenty of shared experiences over the years, and as a traditional Asian family, we don’t often communicate how much we appreciate one another. UNTIL THIS VERY SECOND.

Firstly, there’s Jenny, the older one, who is happily married, and a pharmacist. Then, there’s Annie, the younger one, who is happily engaged, and also a pharmacist. Jenny went to pharmacy school in Oregon. Wait, Annie did too. Jenny gets mad easily sometimes. Oh wait, that is Annie. Or is it both of them? I’m confused now.

Anyway, when we were kids, we often played many boardgames with one another, and being from a poor Asian family, we didn’t get out much. And so I appreciate all the indoor activities we did, which include playing with Barbies, playing Monopoly (both the incorrect and correct way), going to the library together, and watching The Simpsons together (and never laughing at the jokes). We also watched Home Alone, Mrs. Doubt-fire, and Jumanji as kids so many times, as well as random recorded music awards shows on television (recorded on VHS). We also skated together. As much as I’m glad that my parents eventually moved to a house, some of our best memories come from being crammed into a 2-bedroom apartment, and sleeping in the same room.

Whenever we got angry, one of the three of us would always run into the closet. The other two would subsequently write a note for the third person and slip it under their door. This doesn’t happen anymore, as we all live in three different apartments or houses, but the memory remains.

As we grew older, I got to know the significant others of both Annie and Jenny very well. Nam is a very calm fellow, which would have been nice to have as a brother. Duke is… strange, but he fits nicely into our family, despite the initial drama that came with being Korean and stealing my room brought.

Anyway, as we got older, we had many life experiences, and here are some just to list a few:

  • Jenny’s high school graduation
  • Annie’s high school graduation
  • My high school graduation
  • Jenny’s college graduation
  • Annie’s college graduation
  • My college graduation
  • Jenny’s wedding
  • Annie’s engagement dinner
  • Every TET together
  • Birthday celebrations
  • Random Meals

I hope we remain siblings forever, and that we maintain contact long after Annie and Jenny have moved on with their respective lives.
