Yesterday I made a trip to the Nixon Library with my Anaheim Achieves students (After school world history class, funded by the YMCA). It was relatively entertaining as I got to ride a school bus again (first time in years), see the entire chronology of Richard Nixon’s life (congress, senate, failed presidential run, failed governorship run, successful presidential run, re-election campaign, ending of the Vietnam War, and Watergate). I also got a nice look inside Richard Nixon’s old house (without a bathroom suffice to say), and his old private Jet. I took a picture inside of it as well, attempting to replicate Nixon’s.

Though he wasn’t one of the greatest presidents, he did end the Vietnam War. At the same time, his domestic policies could have used a little bit more work. I’m sure other presidents have done worse than Watergate but Nixon was just dumb enough to get caught.
About half the students enjoyed the field trip while the others thought it was “boring”. It was still pretty entertaining seeing the tour guide ask them a bunch of questions that they had idea what the answer was (one of which included who is the current Vice President……..). FAIL. Afterwards, all 44 students went to KFC and Mcdonald’s as we invaded their headquarters for the sole purpose of filling our stomachs.
