After essentially going to the University of California, San Diego, and eating in all its price center provided “restaurants”, I believe it’s a sufficient time to rate all the food locations on campus. They have been an unremarkable amount of the source of my consumption, and subsequently fatness. Let’s start!

BURGER KING: My recommendation essentially is to never eat at this place. Sure, it’s open 24/7 (on weekdays only though), but their ice cream runs out in the middle of the night anyway. The food is more than subpar, and don’t be surprised if you happen to catch food poisoning while eating there. The fries have always been good, and their value menu WAS sufficient, until they decided to up the prices.

Rating: 3/10

PANDA EXPRESS: Talk about a ton of grease and oil in essentially artificial Chinese food. I can’t resist sometimes though to eat some of their oily chow mein, their semi-delicious vegetables, and their less than stellar meat. Depending on when you go the food is either fresh, or you can definitely tell it’s been sitting out for a long portion of the day. The amount of food they provide you with in regards to the price you pay is sufficient though.

Rating: 6/10

TAPIOCA EXPRESS: I LOVE BOBA! I love all the drinks there essentially, and the food isn’t half-bad either. Definitely not the best quality meat you can find, but pretty good for a decently sized establishment. The waits are never long, and service isn’t half bad, so I would recommend this place if you were visiting the campus.

Rating: 7/10

SANTORINI GREEK ISLAND GRILL: Considering I’ve only had the wings, hummus, and fries there I am pretty impartial. It couldn’t be worse than Burger King in my estimation, but I definitely hate the taste and smell of Hummus. Subsequently, it’s ratings is pretty justified in my subjective eyes.

Rating: 5/10

ZANZIBAR: Overpriced and Overrated.

Rating: 5/10

CROUTONS: Good, although I wouldn’t necessarily say the food is “healthy”. They give you decent portions for the value, and is one of the  “more refined” choices on campus. It’s locations though always struck me as extremely awkward though, resorting in a lower rating overall.

Rating: 6/10

BOMBAY COAST: The two times I ate at this place (both Vegetarian and meat meals) resulted in a perpetual headache. I subsequently would not recommend this place to anyone, although I suppose it’s a better option for Vegetarians. They give you a ton of food for what you pay, so it’s all a shame it’s not good Indian food. 🙁

Rating: 4/10

RUBIOS: UM EW. Me no like beans. Me no like burritos. If you actually want better tasting Mexican food, go to Chipotle. It’s really that simple.

Rating: 4/10

SUBWAY: Eat Fresh (even though the meat is actually dyed a certain color to make it look more delicious). I would say this is a pretty good value, definitely “cheaper” than the other options. Not really a bad fan myself, I must admit.

Rating: 7/10

JAMBA JUICE: You can’t really mess up freshly produced juices for your stomach. ALL NATURAL YUM. SUGAR YUM!!!!! Their food is crap though, so I wouldn’t recommend eating there.

Rating: 7/10

ROUND TABLE: Decently tasting Pizza. Decently tasting food. VERY EXPENSIVE THOUGH, and definitely a longer wait than others (subsequently diminishing its rating in my book). I would recommend it though if you wanted a good place to sit and chat with your buddies.

Rating: 7/10

PORTER’S PUB: $3 dollar meals!!!! And alcohol for you alcoholics!!!! On campus! It’s authentically loud in there, and technically not in Price Center itself, but it proves itself superior to everything else subsequently.

Rating: 8/10

  1. I need to try the $3 meals at Porter’s! I heard it is pretty good, but the wait is too long for my short lunch break. I have never been to Zanzibar, but my friend let me try her veggies chips and they were delicious! If you went during happy hour, the prices should not be too bad. Crouton’s would be higher on my list if they lowered the prices. Everything else is crap. I did not know Subway dyed their meat?! ):

  2. I think you missed a place…what about Tacone in the Price Center? The food is fairly decent and the lines are almost always short, but it doesn’t seem to be open a lot…

  3. $3 meals are so tiny thoughhh. And what about the adorable old lady in BK? Definitely deserves an extra point for that. &Bombay Coast AND Rubios gave me food poisoning. NO POINTS.

  4. Subway all the way. Best healthy food amount for price by far. Plus, I think they have the best personal customization for your order out of all the restaurants which is pretty cool.
