Glee. In. Class.

Today was epic.

In COCU141C, I actually spoke out voluntarily in class today. It was regarding Glee. The professor showed us a picture of Glee – this one in fact:

I basically was zoning out until this point, half not paying attention… but then she showed this picture and then asked the class who watches Glee. Another student in the back apparently had no idea what Glee was, so the professor asked someone to explain it. I raised my hand, VOLUNTARILY, proud to be a Gleek, and explained to the class what it was.

“Glee is a show about a group of high school outcasts who sing in a high school Glee Club”. The professor was glad I said “outcasts” because it shows how a group of outcasts together, can portray normativity. I then explained Artie was the kid in the wheelchair who really wants to dance, Rachel was the dramatic drama queen, and Kurt was the gay one. It’s times like this that make college great. When something you love, suddenly becomes related to what you are actually doing in class. I think the professor has a positive opinion of the show because Artie, in a wheelchair shows that he is just like everyone else – outcasted and wanting to be a part of society – normal, like everyone else, whatever that might be deemed ultimately by society. He is just like everyone else, and should be treated that way.
