Day 132: Safe and Sound

Today restored my faith in teaching. I taught the Holocaust in five different periods. All five periods were affected emotionally. Students that normally misbehaved and were disruptive were on their best behavior, except for one.

No song could do the Holocaust justice. I just hope the people in these camps had some ounce of hope – closing their eyes to hope for a better tomorrow or wishing for freedom. Eventually the Allies did liberate them and they were safe and sound, but this was after already 6 million Jewish deaths.

Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You’ll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I’ll be safe and sound
