Day 226: Indoor Day

August 14th, 2011
All the activities that I did today were done in the confines of my own home right here at La Regencia. I woke up in the morning, played a few games online, and then ate breakfast/lunch in the form of some more rotissery chicken and rice. Afterwards, my friend Michelle came over and we watched three episodes of the O.C. (while Tyler fell asleep in between). When that was all said and done I played more games online while Lauren made me the only form of sushi I liked for dinner: Spam musubi. It was a tad bit salty, but still delicious enough to be my picture of the day. Having chowed that down in my stomach I talked to Tyler and Lauren for a bit, watched the first Final Destination movie with both of them (start of our marathon), before finishing the night out with Breaking Bad and sleep.

History
On this day in 2003, a major outage knocked out power across the eastern United States and parts of Canada. Beginning at 4:10 p.m. ET, 21 power plants shut down in just three minutes. Fifty million people were affected, including residents of New York, Cleveland and Detroit, as well as Toronto and Ottawa, Canada. Although power companies were able to resume some service in as little as two hours, power remained off in other places for more than a day. The outage stopped trains and elevators, and disrupted everything from cellular telephone service to operations at hospitals to traffic at airports. In New York City, it took more than two hours for passengers to be evacuated from stalled subway trains. Small business owners were affected when they lost expensive refrigerated stock. The loss of use of electric water pumps interrupted water service in many areas. There were even some reports of people being stranded mid-ride on amusement park roller coasters. At the New York Stock Exchange and bond market, though, trading was able to continue thanks to backup generators. It’s like living like the Amish….
News
It makes me feel older than dirt that Lizzie McGuire, uh, Hilary Duff, 23, is actually pregnant, but pregnant she is. For real this time. Though baby bump rumors have circulated ever since she married Mike Comrie, 30, last year, today she announced that they are indeed expecting a baby. To make things even more perfect, today is their one-year anniversary. GOOD FOR HER.

P.S.: Sincerity
