Continuing where I left off in my last blog (approximately situated about 2 weeks ago), I am now about to enter week 2 of my second year! There’s much catching up to do from then.
Move-in went quite well – I found out my front light doesn’t work to my basement, as well as the fact from maintenance that it could potentially flood in our dungeon. That sounds great, especially since we have a 40-inch television situated in our living room. (Sarcasm). In terms of seeing everyone again, it’s been a pleasure I suppose to revisit the floor family created last year. Not much has changed in terms of how close we all are, except maybe a few dramatic breaks from reality. Shrugs. Oh well!
In terms of food, I’m eating at Canyon Vista a lot less this year – partially due to the fact that we have less meal points, partially due to the fact that we have a kitchen, and partially due to the fact of the sub-standard quality of the food there. Although, if I really wanted to make a comparison, I would blatantly point out the starving kids in Africa. Sigh. In terms of what we eat in the kitchen – Sandwiches? Rice…. which I failed at cooking in a pot 3 times, good thing we have a rice cooker now! Eggs & Spam are a great delicacy, and I love Trix! Silly Jack Bauer, Trix are for kids!
Classes? My COHI100 professor is Irish, and pretty darn funny/interesting. He’s what you would expect in a liberal-college educated professor, very educated? He also canceled classes on the first day due to the UC walkout – I instead attended work. POLI27 is not as bad as I thought it was going to be, but that’s probably really due to the fact that Professor Rickless makes it so darn interesting and thought-provoking. In terms of subject – moral permissibility is debated among 4 general topics – killing in war, abortion, euthanasia, and aid to the needy. HILD2A is a simple, and pretty damn straight forward class – it’s a general US history class – from the colonial periods basically up to Andrew Jackson. Good times. The professor is a bore, but the class itself seems to be quite easy – but it might be a little too early to judge…
Speaking of which, my job @ Environmental, Health, and Safety is going well. I posted several safety notices regarding vacuum lines in the School of Medicine, and will continue doing so at Revelle Biochemistry buildings next week. I also print out most of my homework and reading at work – which saves a lot of ink, time, and money. 😀 Not that I’m complaining. After all, I’m working 19 hours at week at approximately 9.94/hr. Not bad for a college student, particularly due to the fact that I saved a bunch of money over the summer, and the fact that I’m not really a heavy spender either…
In terms of television, Glee is going well – it gets more and more bizarre each week, but I suppose that’s what makes it interesting. I loved the incorporation of the Single Ladies dance in the high school football game, as well as the cover of Queen’s Somebody to Love! Great hits, Increase itunes playcount, thanks!. House’s episode in the mental hospital was staged much like a movie and interesting as well… Hell’s Kitchen is whatever, & 90210 still needs heavy improvement if it’s going to be a weekly habit.
Clubs? I signed up for the Guardian by submitting an article. It was kind of half-assed though, so I don’t really expect a response. I also joined PAW (Programming at Warren) which hosted a poker night recently, that was pretty fun. I also am planning to join Warren College Student Council – but probably won’t since they have mandatory meetings on Thursday at 5, and I have a mandatory discussion then. Oh well, maybe next quarter. Besides, all my attention is going to be on rushing, which starts tomorrow! That’s right! I decided to join a fraternity. Hopefully the stereotype that all fraternities do is party and get crazy will be false, and I will be able to demonstrate that a fraternity truly can’t change a person (and only a person can change them self). If I do change though, I expect my friends to be able to tell me that. In terms of why I am rushing for a fraternity, that’s a truly very hard question to answer. Partially open-mindedness, a desire for more networking, a desire for personal growth, a desire for a wider college experience, a desire for everything that I can do to personally “Self-actualize” myself, I will attempt. Also a combination of factors rooting from what occurred this previous summer to what I want to evolve into in the future. It’s time for me to change my life. My destiny is in my hands – and obviously in the hands of the fraternity on whether I get a bid or not. Regardless of that however, I will strive for personal growth regardless this year, by any means possible.
