Today was a good combination of teaching showcased by how well my regular World History and IB students did.
I’m digging co-teaching this year, and a majority of the students seem pretty dedicated to doing well (so far). In covering the Enlightenment, I had students create Pokemon cards for 2 Enlightenment figures. I have attached the best one for your enjoyment.
I made the mistake last year of embedding “too simple” of assignments for my IB students, who frankly desire to be challenged. Subsequently, we had our first roundtable this year on the Civil Rights Movement. 7 students were assigned 7 key figures from the Civil Rights Movement and had a panel discussion in front of the class about their accomplishments during the era. The remaininng students asked questions of the participants, and they all did an amazing job! Especially love the drama between George Wallace, Malcolm X, Lyndon B Johnson, and of course Martin Luther King Jr.
I hope to continue to challenge myself in new and profound ways to create engaging lessons for students in both regular and advanced classes in the future. Hopefully my 12 years of experience will bring me to new heights this year.
