Today I got the greatest of news. I got promoted to Principal. Instead of teaching, I will now be moving systems and moving teachers to try to create the greatest school possible. More Phil’s BBQ field trips are in the works!
April Fool’s!
I don’t imagine I’ll be Principal anytime soon, or actually even ever, even if I do have the credential.
I did play a few April Fool’s jokes on my students though. For my regular classes I was super nice to them (more so than usual), even giving Pokemon points to kids that usually lose points for misbehaviors. My super sarcastic personality mostly confused most of them, but kept myself entertained for the most part.
For my IB students, I don’t have to put up a front and “pretend to be” mean to them. So that strategy wasn’t really going to work. Instead I gave them a pop quiz comprising of questions from the start of the school year to the present. Not sure they really believed it was a real quiz, but it was a worth a shot.
Anyway, it was a great day overall. Being positive with students, even if exaggerated, made the whole day go by much more smoothly. Makes me wonder if my sarcastic cynical teaching persona is still effective. I doubt kindness would work every day though, especially since it would be mostly inauthentic coming from me.
