There’s never been a game that has triggered so many memories and had a lasting legacy in my life.

The original monopoly was played by my siblings and I constantly when we were young, occupying many of the hours of our lives before the internet. We played the game wrong for many years though, buying houses on any property we wanted regardless of color.

Years later, after reading the rules, we self corrected ourselves and played it the right way, still consuming hours of our lives in the process.

Though the full version of the game is rarely played by me in the present, monopoly deal remains a simplified and easier version of the game able to be played by small groups in a more finite period of time. Including with Katherine who beats me half the time.

Now, I continue to embrace monopoly through the mobile app monopoly go, which apparently made billions last year in revenue. Quite ironic, but also makes a lot of sense in a game all about capitalism.

I imagine this game will continue to exist for years to come as long as capitalism is the reigning economic system in the world.
